Coyote and Selected Poems by
 Lamar Thomas

Too Sweet

 Behind the line
 by the fryers
 they kissed.
 In the walk-in
 cooler they kissed.
 After work
 they lingered
 by the box
 of ripening guava.
 Thick tropical
 scent grips them,
 and they kissed.
 I told them
 to stop,
 the fruit
 was beginning
 to rot.
