Coyote and Selected Poems by
 Lamar Thomas

She

Beside me here on the couch today,
all sleek amber and blue form,
 one arm around my shoulder,
she reading from a child’s book of romance:
 bursting hearts and barriers,
 silence and the roar,
the taunts of happiness and the cries of desire,
they were all there in grown up words
 and muted water colors.
 And when she finished,
 one kiss upon the cheek
and she rose and walked away.
It was like my whole life
 was in this little book,
 and even more...
I saw what I wanted in life
 holding this little book.
