Coyote and Selected Poems by
 Lamar Thomas

Innocent Again

 Asking how I feel:
 Jaded pinched lips
 swallow back
the pure lines of an open heart.
 I could lie,
 I could wave flags,
I could pretend a million things,
but when I look upon her
 I open
 like morning glories
 to the sun.
I open as I did when words
 first touched meaning
 to my mind,
 easliy, against all odds.
